Trimbakeshwar Route and Transport Options | Shri Gajanan Maharaj Sansthan
Complete route and transport guide for Trimbakeshwar. Covers Mumbai-Nashik-Pune road routes, train options, Nashik airport transfer, MSRTC bus, and the local auto / cab network around the temple town.
Trimbakeshwar route and transport options
Trimbakeshwar is 28 km west of Nashik city, at the source of the Godavari. Getting there from anywhere in Maharashtra means a Nashik-bound leg first, then the Trimbakeshwar transfer. Three primary modes — road, rail, and air (via Nashik airport) — and one secondary mode (MSRTC bus) cover almost every pilgrim's pattern.
This guide explains the practical routes, timings, and trade-offs for each option, plus the local auto and cab network around the temple town.
Mumbai to Trimbakeshwar
Mumbai is the most common origin city. Three options:
Option 1 — Road (Mumbai–Agro highway, via Kasara).
- Distance: 200 km
- Time: 4–5 hours by car
- Route: Mumbai → Kasara (NH 48 / Mumbai-Agro highway) → Igatpuri → Trimbakeshwar
- Toll plazas: 2 (₹250–350 one-way for a sedan)
- Best for: families with luggage, flexible timing
- Avoid: leaving Mumbai after 16:00 on Friday evenings (the Kasara ghat section is heavy with weekend traffic)
Option 2 — Train (Mumbai CSMT / LTT → Nashik Road / Igatpuri).
- Distance by rail: 170 km
- Time: 2.5–3.5 hours
- Frequency: 20+ daily trains
- Best trains: Panchavati Express (12117), Godavari Express, Rajdhani Express (for Nagpur-bound stops at Igatpuri)
- Best for: solo pilgrims, those who don't want to drive
- Connect: train to Nashik Road or Igatpuri, then taxi to Trimbakeshwar (60–75 minutes from Nashik Road, 30–40 minutes from Igatpuri)
Option 3 — MSRTC bus (Mumbai → Nashik → Trimbakeshwar).
- Mumbai to Nashik: 3.5 hours, ₹350–500 per person
- Nashik CBS to Trimbakeshwar: 1.5 hours, ₹80–120 per person
- Frequency: every 30 minutes from Mumbai Central bus stand
- Best for: budget pilgrims, no-luggage trips

- Time: 4.5–5.5 hours by car
- Route: Pune → Narayangaon → Sangamner → Sinnar → Nashik → Trimbakeshwar

Nagpur to Trimbakeshwar
The Nagpur-bound Rajdhani and other long-distance trains stop at Igatpuri, which is the closest railhead to Trimbakeshwar. Two options:
- Train to Igatpuri — 12–14 hours from Nagpur, then 30–40 minute taxi to Trimbakeshwar
- Train to Nashik Road — 12–14 hours, then 60–75 minute taxi
- Road (Nagpur → Amravati → Nashik) — 700 km, 12–14 hours by car
Most Nagpur-bound pilgrims break the journey at Igatpuri, do the Trimbakeshwar darshan, and continue the next day.
Hyderabad to Trimbakeshwar
Two options:
- Train (Hyderabad → Nashik / Igatpuri) — 12–14 hours, multiple connecting trains via Mumbai
- Road (Hyderabad → Solapur → Pune → Nashik → Trimbakeshwar) — 800 km, 14–16 hours
Most Hyderabad pilgrims route via Mumbai — train to Nashik is the practical default.

- Train via Pune Junction — 5–7 hours, ₹1,200–2,000 per family
Local transport in Trimbakeshwar town
Trimbakeshwar town is small (3 km across). The local transport is shared autos and rented cabs.
| Mode | Use case | Approximate cost |
|---|---|---|
| Shared auto (Trimbakeshwar town) | Move between bus stand, temple, Bhakta Niwas | ₹20–50 per person |
| Private auto (within town) | Direct point-to-point | ₹80–150 |
| Rented cab (half day) | Brahmagiri + temple + Kushavarta tour | ₹800–1,200 |
| Rented cab (full day) | Nashik airport transfer + local tour | ₹2,000–2,800 |
For the darshan-day auto, most pilgrims hire a private cab for the half-day. It picks the family up from the Bhakta Niwas, waits during darshan, and drops back. The Sansthan booking desk can arrange this with 4 hours' notice.
Trimbakeshwar to Nashik city (Panchavati)
The Trimbakeshwar-Panchavati transfer is a 28 km journey. For combo yatras covering both halves:
- Shared auto — ₹80 per person, 60 minutes, fills up at the Trimbakeshwar bus stand
- MSRTC bus — ₹40 per person, 75 minutes, hourly
- Private cab — ₹800–1,200, 50 minutes
For details on the combo yatra see Nashik Trimbakeshwar Combo Guide.
Trimbakeshwar to Igatpuri (for train connections)
Igatpuri is 30 km southeast of Trimbakeshwar. It is the closest major railhead for north-bound long-distance trains. Shared autos run the Trimbakeshwar-Igatpuri route; private cabs are also available.
- Shared auto — ₹100 per person, 45 minutes
- Private cab — ₹700–1,000, 30–40 minutes
For north-bound pilgrims (Delhi, UP, Rajasthan, Punjab), Igatpuri is the practical connection point.
Festival-week transport changes
Three patterns to expect during festival weeks:
- Mahashivratri: Parking in Trimbakeshwar town closes at 14:00 on the festival day. Use the peripheral MSRTC parking and the shuttle.
- Sawan Mondays: Mumbai-Agro highway traffic slows 08:00–16:00. Allow 90 extra minutes.
- Navratri Day 1 and Day 9: Nashik-Trimbakeshwar bus frequency doubles. No advance booking required.
For the festival-by-festival picture see Festival Advance Booking Window.
Cost expectations for a 2-night trip
| Origin city | Train option | Road option | Flight option (via nearest airport) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mumbai | ₹400–1,200 | ₹1,500–2,500 (fuel + toll) | Not applicable |
| Pune | ₹500–1,400 | ₹1,800–2,800 (fuel + toll) | Not applicable |
| Nagpur | ₹600–1,500 | Not recommended | ₹3,000–5,000 (via Mumbai/Nashik) |
| Hyderabad | ₹1,200–2,400 | Not recommended | ₹4,000–7,000 (via Mumbai) |
| Delhi | ₹1,500–3,500 | Not recommended | ₹5,000–9,000 (via Mumbai/Nashik) |
These are per-person figures for the main leg. The Trimbakeshwar transfer is ₹100–1,200 per person on top.
Mistakes to avoid
- Driving into Trimbakeshwar town on Mahashivratri day. Parking closes at 14:00; the police turn vehicles back.
- Booking a Mumbai-Trimbakeshwar direct cab from a random website. Most are unreliable; use the Bhakta Niwas desk or a verified local operator.
- Taking the night bus to Nashik. Arriving at 04:00 in Nashik is fine, but the transfer to Trimbakeshwar is harder in the dark.
- Ignoring the Kasara ghat section. Mumbai-Agro highway has a steep ghat that becomes dangerous in heavy rain. Avoid driving in Sawan if you're not used to the route.
- Booking a train to Nashik Road station but the temple is closer to Igatpuri. Check the train's exact stop; long-distance trains often skip Nashik Road and only stop at Igatpuri.
- Assuming the Trimbakeshwar bus stand is in the town centre. It is 1.5 km from the temple; most pilgrims take an auto from the bus stand.
Final checklist for transport
- Train tickets both directions booked with senior concession if eligible
- Trimbakeshwar transfer from Nashik / Igatpuri confirmed
- Local auto or cab for the darshan day booked
- Mumbai-Agro highway / Pune-Nashik highway road conditions checked before departure
- Pre-paid taxi option noted at Nashik airport
- Return journey timing respects Kasara ghat night-driving warning (avoid after 20:00)
